We all have those days when the back unexpectedly seizes up and we’re left stiff, confused, and slightly afraid. No matter your age, occupation, or health status, it seems part of the human condition to deal with back problems at one point or another. What sets apart acute sufferers from chronic patients is a game plan. While you can’t always avoid discomfort, we can all be proactive and have a lifeline close by to avoid drowning in pain.

As a kinesiologist and trainer, I’ve been working with back pain patients for years. While each case brings about a different level of severity and challenge, one thing remains true in virtually all circumstances. Acute back pain’s archenemy is movement. If you can mentally jump over the hurdle and commit to light mobility exercises, your pain and stiffness are almost guaranteed to subside, at least to some degree.

To set you up for success, I’ve constructed a 5-part blueprint to subtly mobilize your back in all its various parts and positions. View this as a lifeline you can grab onto every time you feel your tissues start to shut down and grow stiff.
