The Hard Truth About Strength Training That You Must Swallow To Improve

I came to a striking realization yesterday. While I preach simplicity as a superpower resistance training, I often overcomplicate things myself. Being a writer and posting content online has resulted in this underlying pressure to provide new variety, to mix things up, and to keep everything fun. I often squash a good article idea or training thought because it isn’t fresh enough or I’m worried most people will have heard it before.

It sounds a bit ridiculous, but it’s where I’m at. While I always encourage my clients to avoid plateaus and complacency in training by having enough ‘spice’ and diversity within their workouts, doing more for the sake of doing more is rarely a good idea.

Why is this the case?

Exercises take time to master. It can take up to three to six months to start seeing the adaptations and benefits from the consistent work you're putting in. If you’re bouncing around from one modification to another, you may never fully get the gains you desperately seek.
