No injury is ever fun, but knee complications can be especially debilitating due to their location and function. Whether you’re post-op or struggling with an overuse issue, severe knee injuries almost always have one thing in common: a significant loss of mobility. This reality can be disheartening and humbling in the moment, but don’t lose hope. While you may not be able to get back to your sport or activity right away, building up your mobility once again is an objective worth fighting for.

As a kinesiologist and personal trainer, I’ve worked with many post-op knee patients and athletes with severe injuries. Through these experiences, I’ve gradually compiled a simple list of exercises that can help you overcome inertia and get back to building up strength and mobility in this area.

Not only will this help you become more functional and decrease pain signals, but it can also be what your brain needs to restore confidence in your physical abilities. These exercises may seem trivial to the untrained eye, but they can be an absolute lifesaver for those in the thick of knee pain and stiffness.

Without further ado, let’s dive in and get you on the road to recovery!
