The SI (sacroiliac) joint is an area that few people are familiar with, yet it can cause us nightmares. If you’re struggling to pinpoint it, it’s essentially the spot where the pelvis meets the spine. As you can imagine, a whole lot can go wrong in this busy and complex region of the human body. This includes pain, numbness, and stiffness around the lower back, buttocks, and pelvis. Not too fun.

Due to its extremely limited movement and positioning it can be a tricky one to assess and problem-solve for. What we do know is that the health of this joint is heavily influenced by tissues up and down the chain including the hips and trunk. Therefore, if you’re looking to prevent irritation here, you should be strongly encouraged to train these areas in a functional way that focuses on building strength.

Fortunately for you, I’ve gone ahead and designed such a program. This 5-minute routine will not only prevent SI injuries by strengthening weak tissues in the area, but it will greatly improve your overall lower body and core strength. If that doesn’t sound like a good investment of your time, I don’t know what is!
