While there are elements of aging that are inevitable, pain and stiffness can be greatly avoided if you commit to being mobile. You can stay very functional if you go against the grain and continue to be intentionally active well into your seventies, eighties, and beyond. There are hundreds of different strategies for doing this, but I just want to zoom in on five exercises that I believe to be the most valuable for older adults.

The movements you find below will cover key areas such as balance, joint stability, strength, and more. If you can do exercises like this consistently, you’ll be far more likely to maintain your ADLs (activities of daily life) without pain and restriction as you age. My challenge to you is to start now, regardless if you’re technically an older adult or not. The more proactive and less reactive we can be with healthy habits, the more success we’ll have with them.
